Trust on the Internet

trustworthy sealI read a blog today that made me stop and think. What is it about a profile or ad that makes us take that step to contact someone? Times have changed I think. When we first started SexyAds, members contacted mainly because of an attraction or satisfaction with the photo. Either the photo was sexy or the pose seemed friendly and welcoming. Today, I think the blog from Newmnks states the reality of the web today. We’re still attracted by words and pictures but the thing that encourages us to push that reply button is trust. Here’s what he had to say and I hope you’ll comment on his blog, it should be interesting.I wish to start discussion on what makes a person’s profile trustworthy and then helps the other members want to reply to messages sent out. I know there are “tools” to help us write a profile on here but so much of that is aimed at members under 50. Also much is aimed at single members.

How does an attached (or married in my case) member generate enough trust in a member he (or she) wishes to contact to warrant a reply? I find that a LOT of my messages are just ignored with no reply coming to me. I feel this is bad because I do not know if the person has read my message, deleted it without reading or just doesn’t like the information I am putting in my profile.

I feel that I am REQUIRED to be sexual in my profile even though that is only a small part of WHO I AM in life.

Being over 50 and attached and trying to find a partner is quite a separate issue from trustworthy as I think someone at any age is looking for someone they can trust. Across the Internet today people are choosing websites and businesses on their trustworthiness.

Most sites will have some sort of validation or seal of approval (which really means very little other than they have filled out a form and paid a price to confirm that they are “real”), but the reason they do it is because it works. That says to me that trust is a huge issue on the net. I’ll give this some more thought this weekend and hopefully something profound will come to mind.
