The great debate
We’ve never had this discussion in our house before because I’m married to a man. They don’t care whether the toilet paper rolls over the top or comes out underneath, as long as it’s there when they need it, that’s just fine. If for some reason there is no paper on the roll, they don’t change it, they just get a new roll and sit it on the back of the toilet. Am I right, ladies?
So imagine my surprise this morning when there was a new roll on the hanger. I knew I hadn’t done it and the paper was coming out from the bottom and that would never be anything I’d do. My mother raised me right. There is only one correct way to hang the paper and that’s with it coming over the top. If you need confirmation, get a roll with a design on it and hang it both ways. The design only shows when the paper comes off from the top.
I thought I’d give some real encouragement and I said, “Thanks for changing the paper in the toilet.”
Him: “I always change the paper.”
Me: “Huh?”
Him: “Yes, I always change it.”
Me: “Do you hang it with the paper over the top or coming out at the bottom?”
Him: “Are you serious?”
Me: “Yes, which way do you put it?”
Him: “I pick up the paper and I hang it on the bar and whatever way it happens to be is the way I hang it.”
Me: “Ok, how often would you say you’ve done that since we have been together? (13 years)
Him: “A couple”
That puts “always” into perspective, doesn’t it? Nuff said.

hi..glad to see u. I’ve got something from your own blog post.that’s good for me..
ohh..im a newbie and need more interaction with others. If you’re not mind, feel happy to visit my blog..http://mesotheliomabestinfo.blogspot.com/2007/10/asbestos-exposure-mesothelioma-lung.html
what do you think about my post? do you have any idea…
thanks a lot
Amazes me how they can change tyres and oil with the blink of an eye but can’t seem to manage toilet rolls..what is that about?
oh goodness I think that same EXACT conversation has been in almost EVERY home.
That was great, thanks for the giggle…
*over the top!*
Monica
Yep, that pretty much defines “always”, in the minds of men.
This is funny because we just had a conversation about which direction is correct. I never even thought about the design. Of course we don’t get such expensive designer toilet paper! I was raised with it going the wrong way. My husband is very mellow about almost everything but toilet paper misdirection is a divorceable offense he says! LOL
I am having the same debate at my website, where you can even vote on the matter.
My readers don’t agree, but I think you’re wrong – it is neater against the wall. And if you’re buying the stuff with a pattern on then which way to hang it is the least of your problems…
I just put the roll on the shelf beside the privy no need to worry that way .Works great for me.
Steven
LOL!
You captured two amazing phenomenon in one post!
The correct way TP should unroll… obviously over the top, AND the amazing magical transformation of what is a “few times”!
You always bring a smile to my face!
Big hugs,
Jen
Window sill, meet toilet roll. Toilet roll, now you even have a view……
Steve
whom did such happen with in life?
Our paper comes over the top, never from the bottom!
Hahaha…
Waou you got me thinking here!
I have to call my mom tomorrow to tell her she didn’t raise me right! hehe
Anyway great blog…i’ll be back to read more!
Priceless he is “always’ – claps hands … My man he does this well – hehe I just asked him and he said “over the top, only way to do it” but the the boy ! He doesn’t change it at all.
I’m lucky — my wife couldn’t care less about the toilet paper being on the roll thing. I usually just stick it on top of the dispenser thing. It’s only fallen into the toilet twice so far.
lol….thank goodness we are talking about toilet paper because I just pissed myself laughing!
I agree that it is a male thing – no matter what age. Our 12, 23 and 40 yr old boys all leave the empty rolls exactly where they drop, but worse still, take the full roll off the hanger and leave it wherever is handy for them.
We now have a home with 3 toilets – one for me and the girls and the other two for the boys to manage amongst themselves – that includes changing the rolls and cleaning!
Does anybody else have arguments about toilet paper when playing “scissors, stone, paper?” It seems to be a tissue paper thin issue in our home.
And, definitely a folder and over the top. It’s like bread – you tear a bun but only ever cut a slice prior to putting butter on it.
Ohhhh – how come boys don’t get that?
Great post. I so enjoy a good laugh….particularly at my darling’s expense.
Over the top, coming from down under, who cares? As long as it wipes my ass clean.
[...] Many consider Sweetest Day to be a pale clone of Valentine’s Day. Still, since we’ve just passed S-Day 2K7, it’s a nice time to say how much I appreciate my sweetie and best friend, Pat. Although we’re not alike in every way, we do agree about money, about children, about cats… in fact, about pretty much all the important things. [...]
Heh. I just posted about this same thing. Must be something going around. A commenter on my site sent me here.
