I didn't try it for ages, thinking it was only for young beautiful things - but when I finally got to a class, I found (like BellydanceGirl) that most of the class was over 30, and there were quite a few women like me, in their 40's and 50's and no longer in the best of shape. That's what I really like about it - no one is bitchy about your size, shape or ability, unlike some other styles of dancing. And it's never too late to start! I would encourage any woman to take up belly dancing. I have also had some lessons and it's not only the mid section that tones up!! It's the whole body... when I first started, I could feel every muscle in my body being used.
